ALEX ANGHEL
Professional Coaching Experience
My name is Alex Anghel. I am 34 years old, and I have built over 20 years of experience in table tennis, first as a competitive player and now as a coach. From my beginnings as a professional player to becoming a respected coach, my journey includes tournament success, medals, and coaching roles across Europe. I am a Level 1 TTE Certified Coach UK, and I currently coach in prestigious schools across London with over two years of experience.
Professional Journey
I began playing table tennis at a very young age and represented my club in both national and regional competitions. My achievements include winning regional competition, representing my hometown of Iași, and reaching the final stage of national competition in 2007. I also contributed to team qualifications in the 3rd and 2nd National Divisions in 2008 and 2009.
Playing Career
I developed my game through competitive play and consistent performance across multiple events and levels. Alongside my playing pathway, I earned results that helped shape my discipline, tactical understanding, and approach to high performance, which later became the foundation of my coaching work.
Transition to Coaching
I started volunteering to help young players at my original club in 2010, and I was then offered a part time coaching role at the same club. In 2011 I was recommended to Pontano TT in Italy, where I served as Head Coach from January 2011 to May 2015. Those four years as Head Coach in Italy were key in building my coaching structure, standards, and professional mindset.
Player Achievements
Winner Tournament Rosso Terni Italy (2014); Final Grand Prix Preston England Band 3 (2021); Final Open Valingby Sweden (2022); Silver Medal in Men’s Doubles Open Antalya Turkey (2022); Bronze Medal Men’s Doubles Open Albena Bulgaria (2023); Senior British League Player.
Personal Influence and Support
I credit my first coach, Nicoleta Spiridon, along with the influential Ciobotaru Gheorghe, for their unwavering support and the significant roles they played in my professional career and personal life.
Language Proficiency
English; Romanian; Italian.
Conclusion
With a rich history in both playing and coaching, my commitment to table tennis is built on dedication, experience, and steady progress. I aim to inspire young talents and support everyone who trains and competes, helping the sport grow both nationally and internationally by sharing knowledge, setting standards, and leading by example.
